Hello, my name is Benjamin Woodard and I have been teaching the piano for over 20 years. I am comfortable teaching all styles of music, particularly when it comes to classical music performance, and I have experience teaching students of all ages. My teaching approach and experience has been to help students communicate music expressively through technique, listening, and analysis. Piano playing has two main ingredients: sound and time. They work together to create a harmonious blend of rhythm, melody, and harmony in any composition. Characterization in music is important too. I strive to teach and encourage my students to tell a story through their playing. Imitating orchestral instruments and achieving a beautiful tone by listening to and imitating great singers will only enhance one’s taste and tonal palette of colors on the piano. Depending on your level, my lessons consist of the following areas of focus: technique, ear training, music theory, and repertoire. I have experience teaching a variety of piano methodologies and we can work together to find the best fit for your own unique learning style and needs.
