About Me

My name is Bryan Arata. I’m 51 years old. I’ve been playing piano since I was 7 years old. I’ve had multiple teachers teach me multiple styles of music, classical, jazz, rock, musicals, etc. My style of teaching focuses on fundamentals, scales, Hanon Exercises, rhythmic exercises, while also providing feedback on solo pieces. All styles of music do require fundamentals, so whichever type of music you want to learn you do need these fundamentals to be able to play the piano well. I do expect students to practice every day. I will outline what needs to be done during your individual daily practice sessions. A student’s performance at weekly lessons will immediately reveal if a person is practicing or not. I also provide ear training. Some students can learn music by ear, in addition to be able to read music. I can help develop those skills. I think it’s important to have ear training not only to be a good piano player, but to be a good musician. If you choose me as your teacher, I do expect a commitment to the weekly lessons. Not only for your time but for my time as well. It takes hard work to be able to do anything well. Piano and music has been the main part of my life and it’s what I do for a living. I greatly enjoy it. But I did put in the years of time, effort, and practicing to be the piano player I am today. I can pass those skills along to you as a student, but you have to do your part and be willing to learn and practice to get to be a good piano player.
