Online Piano Lessons from Taylor, Taylor, MI

Hello! My name is Cameran Mayfield and I have been teaching private piano lessons for 4 years. I work with students 18+ that are beginners. In 2024, I received the Quincy Jones Musicianship Award for significant contributions across multiple areas in music. My approach to teaching piano is keeping things very slow and approachable and getting to playing songs for the first time fast. I keep my students engaged by giving them short pieces that are fun and simple and I recommend them coming up with pieces that they would like to learn. I don't use a specific book at all, but I do create specific exercises and short little pieces that are fun. I have had private piano lessons for 6 years under a highly trained piano instructor. I also have been in my church band playing keys for 6 years now. My first time teaching piano started out in a piano class room back in my high school days. One of my peers back then wanted to play and they asked can I teach them. And I agreed, showing them basic hand position and technique. I go over these in the following order: how to sit at the piano, hand position, playing the c major scale (one hand then both hands together), chords and melody, then playing your first song of your choice, along with short and simple pieces that are designed for fun and personal practice. My studio is pretty simple. I have an electronic piano with a music stand and my computer on the side (which I'll be using for all lessons). I love the collaborative and supporting nature of piano lessons. Not only do students get to learning how to play, I start learning more myself and tailoring every lesson for each student, rather than a universal method. I usually utilize conducting in with students to help work on and enhance the interpretive side of playing piano with occasional hand gestures.
