Hello! My name is Grace. I started playing classical piano at the age of 4 and studied with many teachers growing up—but I rarely practiced. Everything changed when one teacher introduced me to playing with chords. That single shift opened the door to a completely different kind of musician—one who could play by ear, accompany singing, and actively use music in everyday life.

Through chords, I began playing and singing worship music at church, learning pop songs by ear, and eventually bringing those skills into the classroom, where I taught instrumental and vocal music in public schools for over 12 years. It showed me that music doesn’t have to stay on the page—it can become something personal, expressive, and truly usable.

I’ve also seen many people spend years learning classical piano, only to stop playing altogether. In contrast, when you learn chords, you gain the ability to sit down at almost any piano and play freely—without needing sheet music. It becomes something you carry with you.

Chord-based playing opens doors to real-life music-making—whether that’s serving on a worship team, playing in a band, sharing music with family and friends, or one day singing and playing for your own children.

I’m deeply grateful for the teacher who showed me this path, and my goal is to be that kind of teacher for my students.

I look forward to connecting with you.

P.S. I also teach singing as part of contemporary/pop music piano-playing, or worship piano, if you desire it.

P.S.S. I also love to equip future conductors and music teachers with basic conducting skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any music experience to learn how to play chords on the piano?

Nope! Music experience is helpful, but I can teach you from the basics, until you get to a level you desire.

What is the benefit of taking lessons with you, rather than learning from Youtube?

Every person has different learning needs and styles. One video that teaches you how to play one way cannot and does not work all the time, nor can it easily transfer to other situations. Just imagine- you decide to play for an audience, and you are stuck. I can guide you through any problem you have because I know what you need- a Youtube video or even online courses cannot diagnose your issues and help you with them.

Do I need an actual piano to learn from you? Could I use a keyboard?

You do not need an acoustic piano to learn to play chords- in fact, most pop music will be played on keyboards, so a keyboard works great. In fact, I can even teach you how to use the keyboard to your strength.
