About Me

I am a concert pianist and piano pedagogue with a lifelong dedication to teaching and performing.Teaching has been an integral part of my professional life, developing hand in hand with my concert career. These two aspects of my professional life continuously enrich one another and form the foundation of my teaching approach.

My teaching style is highly individual and rooted in a deep respect for the artistic essence of music. I encourage students to engage emotionally with a piece from the very first reading, developing a vivid sound imagination before addressing interpretive details such as structure, phrasing, tempo, and dynamics. I believe that a clear inner sound image is essential for meaningful interpretation and expressive performance.

What makes my lessons special is the close integration of technique and musical meaning. I treat technique not as a mechanical goal, but as a natural and flexible tool that serves musical expression. I place great emphasis on freedom of movement, a singing tone, and attentive listening, helping students connect physical sensations with sound quality and musical intent.

My teaching also draws on a broad artistic context. I guide students in understanding style, form, and the composer’s language, while carefully selecting repertoire that supports their individual development. My goal is not only to train skilled pianists, but to help students grow into thoughtful, sensitive musicians with a deep and lasting relationship to music.

I also have strong experience and proven results in online teaching. When the pandemic began, while I was teaching at Aichi University of the Arts, I was unable to return to Japan from Europe and taught exclusively online for six months. During this period, my students made significant artistic progress: they became prize winners at international competitions and successfully passed auditions to perform at the university’s major concert in the main concert hall in Nagoya. More recently, my online student was awarded Third Prize at the London International Chopin Piano Competition. Many of my students continue their musical education at leading conservatories in Europe and the United States.

Shoya Nakatsuka

I am Shoya Nakatsuka, who studied at Aichi University of the Arts in Japan. I learned from Mrs. Chukovskaya, and gained so much more about music beyond just playing the notes. Through her lessons, I was able to feel the essence of musical phrasing and breathing in my body, which made my playing more expressive. Mrs. Chukovskaya gave precise advice rooted in the composer’s cultural and musical context, helping me understand the music more deeply. I also learned how to explore different touches and techniques to expand the possibilities of my tone, greatly improving my musical expression. Studying with Mrs. Chukovskaya has truly deepened my understanding of piano and music overall.
