Hello there! My name is John. I’ve played music since I was 8 years old (I’m 49 now)

I’ve done it this long because other than being a husband and a dad, it’s my favorite thing to do in life. I’ve been in several bands, with my first band starting at age 10. If you’re looking for a FUN, performance based approach in music, like being in a band, or being a solo singer/songwriter, or want to learn how to collaborate with other musicians, or be in an ensemble group ,I’m your guy. I take a nontraditional approach in my teaching. My ideal student would be a hungry, curious musician who wants to know how music works, but is attracted to the music and specific songs first and not the theory. The theory will come with time, but hopefully by the end of our first lesson you’ll be playing your favorite song, or at least have a good outline of it. My childhood teacher would ask me what popular song I wanted to learn, then teach it to me the correct way, then explain the theory behind that song. It definitely made it more digestible for me and that is the way I approach teaching. Songs first then theory lessons based on those songs .
