About Me
Nora Kosztolanyi is a Hungarian-born cellist, pianist, and music educator with 40 years of international performance and teaching career experience. She began studying cello and piano at the age of eight and quickly emerged as a prodigious talent, giving her first solo recital at eleven and performing as principal cellist of the Hungarian Youth Chamber Orchestra. She studied at the Music Conservatory in Győr, the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, later continuing advanced professional studies at Mannes College of Music in New York.
Nora has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America, and beyond, appearing with orchestras and at festivals in France, Spain, and other international venues. Her career includes performances in Carnegie Hall and a solo recital invitation from the United Nations. She has received numerous awards and recognitions, including prizes in national and international competitions and scholarships from the Dutch government and the Leonard Bernstein Foundation.
In addition to her performing career, Nora has maintained an active teaching life for decades. She has served as a professor of cello at Marylhurst University and Chemeketa Community College and has taught at various institutions in Oregon. She also maintained a private studio where she taught cello, piano, violin, viola, voice, and music theory. Nora is known for creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere in her lessons while maintaining strong musical discipline and high standards. Her teaching philosophy focuses on listening closely to both students and parents, adapting lessons to each student’s needs and goals, and helping students build confidence, strong technique, and a lifelong love of music.
