Piano Lessons in Alvin

I’m Yvonne Handy, and I have been teaching piano and violin for over 13 years. I provide in-home lessons and build long-term, meaningful relationships with my students and their families.

I specialize in foundational classical piano development. To me, music is a language—one that allows us to express what words cannot. I teach students not just to play pieces, but to understand structure, phrasing, technique, and emotional expression. Classical repertoire provides the depth and integrity needed to develop true musical literacy.

My teaching style is calm, patient, and highly individualized. I meet students where they are, challenge them when they are ready, and slow down when deeper understanding is needed. I do not teach through pressure, but through trust. When students feel safe and supported, they open—and real learning begins.

While classical study forms the backbone of my studio, I occasionally incorporate other music when it serves the student’s growth. The focus always remains on musicianship: reading fluently, listening critically, and developing expressive control.

I work best with motivated children and adults who are willing to engage seriously with the learning process. For adults in particular, I emphasize reading and musical understanding—not simply memorizing songs, but becoming literate, independent musicians.

Lessons with me are about more than learning an instrument. They are about discipline, self-awareness, refinement of expression, and learning how to thoughtfully interpret what we feel.
