About Me
Lessons will be fun and informative. I am not a dictator, but will explain in detail the recommendations and suggested course of action that I believe will enable the most rapid progress.
Lessons are like a pitstop. You will find out what may be wrong and you will be offered solutions.
The lesson is divided into two parts: Review and Move Ahead.
The bulk of the work you do away from the lesson: at home.
Since that is the case, we will assure that your practice is effective, productive and that you get results quickly.
If you have no experience, then we will present patterns to practice which develop mobility skills.
The main focus of the time spent together, however, is on music (i.e. pieces).
The material we work on is divided into two categories, roughly, short-term projects and long-term projects.
Short-term ones are those that can be accomplished successfully in a short period of time (an hour, a day, a few days at most). These are numerous, and foster good habits in every way.
Long-term projects are essentially your "wish-list", works that you would love to play but are beyond your reach at the moment. Despite that, it is possible to chip away at these, little by little, understanding that not too much time be spent on them, but knowing that eventually your skills will be up to the task, thanks to efforts devoted to the short-term challenges.
The focus is on learning how to play and on how to troubleshoot. Theory is useful to know, but playing is more important. As that is the case, theoretical terms and concepts must take second place. What use is it to know all the jargon, but play poorly?
What will you work on? Material is selected based on your level of mastery. Beginners can expect to take on nursery tunes, folk songs, and arrangements of well-known melodies. More advanced students are encouraged to let me know what pieces are favorites.
Lessons are interactive, so communication is important in maintaining the positive momentum which generates progress AND enjoyment. Stress works against these two, so stress-reduction is also a priority.
Good habits give great results. Lessons are an environment where good things take place.
