About Me
Hello! I've been teaching music for 15 years and have been teaching piano for 11 years. I hold a BA in music from Sul Ross State University and a master's in music education from Eastern Washington University. My youngest student was 4 and the oldest in their 60's which obviously calls for different approaches. My biggest emphasis while teaching is focusing on rhythm and a healthy mixture of basics (such as some theory, scales, etc.) along with music the student is interested in. I feel that not enough teachers focus on rhythm, so I use a metronome consistently. Without good solid rhythm everything falls apart. I find that almost every student has a song or some genre of music they're interested in even if their brand new to the instrument. For instance, a theme from one of their favorite movies. When working with me I like to set goals, sometimes within a certain timeframe that the student can strive for in the future. Also, I'm very creative with the lessons so that we're not constantly working on the same old boring strategy. I'll use apps or will accompany the student to make them feel included and to improve their rhythm and timing. What I love most about teaching piano is setting goals with my students. The satisfaction of having a student learn and finish a piece that they were striving for.

What is the studio environment like?
The studio environment is a room well equipped with all the tools for teaching piano. A keyboard, a blackboard, and other instruments to assist in teaching. The room is the perfect size for students to remain focused on the particular lesson.
What is your teaching strategy?
I teach the basics such as scales, some theory, reading along with pieces the student would like to learn. For younger students (age 4-8) musical games are sometimes interspersed with the lesson.
