Learn Piano with Albert Newberry
“I specialize in Classical Piano, Jazz Improv, and Music Theory”
About Me
Hi I'm Albert Newberry and I'm an award-winning pianist and composer of many genres and styles. I hold a BM in piano from Mannes, an MM in music theory from IU, and a PD in collaborative piano from IU. I have taught piano, music theory, and jazz improvisation for many years both privately and at the university level. I teach beginners and children, but I also teach adults and people who have been playing for a while. My main goals are to help you learn what YOU want to learn, in a practical and achievable terms. Of course, no results can come about without practice, but even if you have limited time, I promise that you come away from each lesson having learned something about music/piano and knowing how to apply it. My approach to teaching is holistic, geared towards each individual student, but there is a certain number of books I use/recommend. For theory I use the Barbara Mackin book, for early piano the Waxman, Alfred, or Faber books and for jazz the Mark Levine book.
