Piano Lessons in Crown Heights

I have had a long and diverse career in sacred and secular music as a clarinetist, pianist, organist, tenor, vocal coach, conductor (choral, orchestral, and opera), teacher, and writer. Between ages 44 and 48, I fulfilled a lifelong dream of working through the whole program at St. John's College, Annapolis, and am the second-oldest graduate of that institution.

I tailor my approach to each student's goals and abilities. The basis of my teaching is the Russian school, which takes as its starting point making the piano sound as much like a human voice as possible, and doing so with the least amount of physical tension. The piano is the greatest solo instrument ever invented, because it is the only one that can sound so much like a voice and so much like a full orchestra as well.

I think I strike a good balance between rigor and wit, and am open to students from ages 12-100. Let's meet!
