Piano Lessons in Camarillo

Hi, I’m Christine! I’ve been teaching private lessons since I was 15 years old as soon as I received my certificate of merit from the Music Teachers Board Association of California. Often with beginners aged 9-12, I would use a theory-based approach to ensure that learners have a rich understanding of the instrument which will grant them much more opportunities as they continue sharpening their skill. Since then I’ve worked with learners as mature as over 60 years old and intermediate/advanced learners as well.

I would start lessons with a review of technique, meaning scales, triads, etc. before moving into our assignment which would be a standard appropriate for their skill level. I’ve always used the Alfred’s Premier Piano Course books which have material suited for all ages and skill levels and outline very clearly what is being focused on and learned.

I always finish lessons with an opportunity for my learners to ask questions for clarity’s sake.

I also am trained in most western styles of voice, and teach everything from pop, to musical theatre, to grunge and metal. I approach voice from a mental and physical standpoint, using movement and visuals to help learners understand their instrument. Where piano is more logic and theory based, voice to me is very intuitive and requires the breaking down of stigma and building up of confidence to become truly proficient.

I completed and received the Certificate of Merit from the Music Teachers Board Association of California. This means I practice and perform at an advanced level. Currently I study music at my university and am an embedded peer mentor in all of my music classes. I am confident teaching beyond my level, though I have not yet, because my knowledge of theory and technique ensures I can adapt whenever necessary.
