Piano Lessons in Clute

My name is Criselda Martinez but I go by Crissy or Ms. Crissy. I have been playing piano for 21 years now, and I also have performance experience in a formal setting and casual setting. As far as teaching goes I have about 8 years of experience teaching ages from 3 to 65+. I work with all skill levels however I am more familiar with students in the beginner and intermediate level. I also have experience working with students who are on the spectrum or have learning disabilities.

When teaching piano I like to explain a topic, show the student how to play it then have the student demonstrate it. My goal for the student is for them to know and understand how or when certain material is to be played. I also teach my students how to be independent by guiding them on what to look for when playing a new piece of music. What is the key signature, time signature, starting notes, hand position and etc. Overall I want my students to have fun with the music and allow it to help express them. What I have learned over the years to keep a student engaged in their music studies is by having them select a piece they want to learn (in their skill level) and assign it to them for fun or for a performance. Many of my students participate in a talent show at school and there are usually auditions just to be able to participate in it and so far all have made the cut and perform well in front of an audience. That is because I prepare them for performances where they have to stand in front of an audience, state their name and piece then perform and show gratitude after.

At the age of 7 I started piano and voice lessons and studied with the same teacher for a little over 10 years. I performed in many recitals, festivals, competitions and some venues. I then went to a community college to further my education and graduated in 2020 with my Associates of Arts degree. During those college years I took both piano and vocal lessons and participated in different ensembles as in Jazz Band, Jazz Singers, Choir and I had put my own trio band together with other colleagues. To this day I continue to learn new sheets of music for myself and for my students.

In my home I turned a spare bedroom into my studio. I have a Yamaha Baby Grand Piano, a Yamaha 88 key keyboard, a 88 key Korg Kronos keyboard and soon about to move in a Kawaii Upright Piano that I have purchased from a teacher who moved out of state. The kind of space I created for my students I would say is relaxing, fun and professional.
