Piano Lessons in Cornelia

Hello! My name is Portia Burns and I am a passionate music educator who takes pride in meeting my students exactly where they are and elevating them to new heights. Having worked both independently and within the school system, I have had the pleasure of teaching students from all walks of life.

My Teaching Philosophy and Lesson Structure

I believe that music is a lifelong skill, and there is no "cookie-cutter" way to teach it. My approach focuses on getting to know my students, understanding their personal musical goals, and building custom lesson plans based on conversations with them or their parents. Whether a student wants to major in music, develop career skills, or simply enjoy a new hobby, I pour into those passions to help them showcase their best. My lessons emphasize theory and ear training. While I know that not all students naturally read music or play by ear, my goal is to cultivate a strong, well-rounded mixture of both techniques.
