Piano Lessons in Dearing

Hi, my name is Malik, and I have been teaching piano for the past five years. I am a self taught piano player, and my journey has allowed me to understand what it feels like to learn from the ground up and push through challenges step by step. Along with my personal experience, I have also gained deeper musical knowledge and training from my time at Georgia State University, where I have continued to grow and refine my understanding of music. This combination of real world learning and formal education allows me to teach in a way that is both practical and effective.

Throughout my teaching experience, I have worked with a wide range of students, from complete beginners to developing players who want to build more confidence and skill. My teaching style is fun, engaging, and student centered, meaning I take the time to understand how each student learns best and adjust my approach to fit their needs. Whether you learn better by hearing, seeing, or doing, I make sure every lesson is clear, structured, and easy to follow.

In my lessons, I focus on building a strong musical foundation through technique, hand coordination, rhythm, timing, and chord understanding. I specialize in teaching gospel, R and B, pop, and rock music, so students are learning styles they truly enjoy and connect with. I break everything down into simple, step by step pieces so that students never feel overwhelmed and can see real progress each week. I also focus on helping students understand what they are playing, not just memorize notes, so they can grow into confident musicians.

What truly makes my lessons stand out is the environment I create. I make sure every student feels comfortable, supported, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. I am patient, relatable, and focused on helping students stay motivated and confident throughout their journey. My goal is to not only help you improve on piano, but to help you build discipline, confidence, and a lasting passion for music that goes beyond the lesson.
