Piano Lessons in Albany

I have been teaching and performing for over 40 years. I teach children and adults from beginners to concert players. I offer classical training and then encourage my students to use that training to pursue the music they love and have fun. We have a recital each year to provide performing experience. Genres include classical, theater, pop, rock, folk, liturgical and world music.

We also study related subjects including sight reading, music theory, music history and performance practice.

Time periods include Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century and contemporary.

For those who are interested in other keyboard instruments, training is available on organ, harpsicord, electric piano and synthesizers.

I allow each student to proceed at his own rate and focus on individual strength and style rather than trying to play like someone else.

We also explore composition and improvisation to develop musical imagination and proficiency in writing musical notation.

I also teach recording technology to give students the ability to make professional sounding recordings of their playing.

I am a certified piano tuner and technician and offer students insight into the inner workings of their instrument to help improve their approach.

Consistent practice is encouraged to maximize the benefits of lessons. Missed lessons may always be made up at mutually convenient times. Lessons are offered in person and online.
