Piano Lessons in Northeast

Dave began playing on the family piano in first grade. Through his school years, he learned the piano's notes and chords, and began composing and improvising. He played vibraphones in high school and college. He studied harpsichord and composition in college. He continues composing new music with diverse styles and orchestrations. These pieces feature piano, organ, harpsichord, and mallet instruments, along with brass, woodwinds, strings, and percussion elements.

Dave's music lessons are customized for students as young as 3. He determines each student's level of proficiency, learning capacity, and preferred learning methods. He assembles training materials from existing literature, enhancing those with original materials he creates for each student's particular needs.

As students build their manual skills, Dave introduces doses of music theory. A piano is core to instructions in scales, chords, and intervals, ear training, voice training, music theory, and as a common reference for learning all other instruments.

Each new lesson builds from previous lessons. The discoveries, challenges, and questions that arise during their home practice sessions are addressed in the next lesson. Introducing new materials is determined by each student's ability to genuinely practice; just one hour each week can result in remarkable advancement in skills and knowledge.

Dave prefers teaching on the pianos that the students will practice on. When needed, he can give lessons in his home studio on an electronic keyboard.
