About Me

Biography:

Born in Armenia, Alfred Reganyan immigrated to California while still a child. As a pianist under the tutelage of Dr. Lucy Nargizyan (USC) at East Los Angeles College, he studied both solo and collaborative repertories (accompanying and orchestral playing). During that time, he also sang in the school choir, played Percussion, and took violin lessons. His playing has been described as having a ‘beautiful sound' and ‘exquisite tone’. His piano studies continued at California State University, Northridge, where his work with Mark Richman (Julliard) on performance and Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk (Columbia) on pedagogy culminated in a Bachelor of Music degree.

Teaching Philosphy:

Music unites people and elicits emotions. Music should be taught to anyone willing to learn. Alfred Reganyan has taught students of many different ages. From exuberant children to wise and well lived adults. From hobbyists to aspirational. Every student has their own tempo and way of learning. His way of teaching involves adjusting to each students needs, and helping them as individuals. With this method his students are able to learn with enjoyment and passion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old is too old?

I don't have any age restrictions. I'll be happy to teach anyone willing to spend the time to learn. I am very patient and don't judge your skill level. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I am here to help you take that first step!

How much should I practice?

Generally, when you first begin, I recommend anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes a day. As you progress, that time may change. But it is important to note that daily practice is the most important part.

Do I need a expensive piano to begin?

I usually recommend something affordable when you first begin. As you progress and want to learn more techniques, I would suggest getting better options. I usually will try to work with you and get the best option for your situation.

Can't I learn on my own?

Technically, yes you can. However it is not recommended. Teachers usually have the knowhow and the experience to make sure that you not only learn correctly, but also learn efficiently. Remember, fixing bad habits are more difficult that learning good ones.

Is reading music difficult?

A lot of people assume reading music is a very difficult thing to learn, but that is far from the truth. Music is written in a way where it is not only easy to understand, but be able to be quickly read. Once you understand the method, it is fairly easy to read.
