About Me

Hello! My name is Zach, and I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old and have gradually added more and more instruments to my skill set, especially the saxophone. I have a Bachelor's of Music in Instrumental Music Education, where I studied saxophone and piano among other instruments, such as percussion, including nontonal and tonal instruments, trumpet/cornet, as well as other brass and woodwind instruments, including the guitar and electric bass. I was a band director in Indiana for 5 years, where I taught 6th through 12th grade band and general music. During my time there, I tailored my educational approaches with a summary philosophy of 'the betterment of the whole through the growth of the individual.' I employed individual exercises for each student to nurture the best environment for success using specific drills and varied instruction and lesson approaches. Currently, I am getting my Master's of Music at The University of North Florida. When I have taught my private lessons, I employ a goal-oriented approach, mixing growth of fundamentals while making sure the student enjoys the process and becomes the musician they want to be. In terms of teaching pedagogy, I follow the philosophy of 'teaching one thing five ways,' meaning I employ a multifaceted approach, introducing concepts and techniques by providing one idea in multiple ways to promote better understanding for the student. I am super passionate about music and education, and want to share the joy of playing instruments and create outlets for students in other avenues of their lives. I would love to connect and help you on your musical journey.
