“I specialize in Beginner And Intermediate Piano, Student Centered Practice, and Music Theory”
About Me
Hi! My name is Cerah Rodriguez, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from San Diego State University and am currently completing my Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at SDSU. I’ve been teaching since 2008 and have experience working with a wide range of students ages 5 and older, including children, teens, and adults.
I teach beginner and intermediate piano, beginner guitar, and voice lessons at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Over the years, I’ve worked with students at many different stages, from young beginners building foundational skills to more advanced singers preparing for performances, competitions, and auditions. My background as both a performer and scholar allows me to guide students not only in technique, but also in interpretation, stylistic awareness, and musical understanding.
My teaching approach is student-centered, meaning every lesson is tailored to the individual. I create structured learning plans based on each student’s goals, learning style, and pace, while maintaining a strong focus on technical consistency and musical accuracy. I regularly evaluate tone, phrasing, diction, and interpretation, providing clear, detailed feedback that helps students understand both how and why to improve. I also incorporate elements of score study, text analysis, and listening skills to help students develop a deeper awareness of the music they are working on.
What makes my lessons unique is the combination of detailed musical analysis and practical application. I place strong emphasis on careful listening, pattern recognition, and breaking down complex musical concepts into clear, manageable steps. My experience working with multilingual repertoire—including English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish—allows me to support students in diction, text interpretation, and stylistic nuance across a variety of genres.
I also prioritize organization and clarity in both instruction and feedback. Students receive structured guidance, written notes when needed, and consistent progress tracking, helping them stay engaged and aware of their development over time. My goal is to help each student build not only strong technical skills, but also independence, confidence, and the ability to think critically about their own musical work. I support different goals especially for those seek music as means of joy and relaxation! It important that we enjoy the way we're experiencing music, because it is such a gift!
