Piano Lessons in Belmont Shore

My name is Bri Wilson and I have a bachelors degree in Theatre performance from California State University, Long Beach. I have been studying music, including piano and singing for over 20 years.

I have been teaching private lessons in studios and students homes for about three years now, as well as taught in local elementary schools for a nonprofit arts education organization. I started teaching as soon as I graduated college and it is something that I love very much. I mainly specialize in teaching children and teenagers as that is what I have the most experience in, but I am also very comfortable teaching older adults as well. I also have experience and currently work with special-needs children teach teaching them music as a developmental tool.

The way that I teach is to focus on learning the fundamentals, especially the fundamentals of music theory and reading music before you go into more complex pieces on the piano. I believe that this builds a stronger foundation because as soon as you are able to understand how to read music and understand the fundamentals, you can go on to learn more complicated pieces whenever you want to. This is also the approach that I have to teaching voice as it is very important to develop the fundamentals and understand your voice before you begin to sing complicated pieces so that you are properly trained in vocal health. I believe in a casual and calm yet focused approach to teaching that allows us to work on the things that you want to work on while also building the necessary skills.

I have extensive background in musical theater as well as children’s music and pop, rock and jazz. I am an active performer in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas so I also have some connections and the ability to make suggestions of other training and ways to gain experience in the area.
