About Me
Hi! I’m Noam, a lifelong musician who has been teaching music for 10 years. I started learning from my mom, a classical musician, before branching out into the worlds of jazz, rock, pop, r&b, gospel, and beyond. I received my master’s degree in jazz composition from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
As a producer and composer, I use my experience and skills from the classical and jazz traditions I’m rooted in to explore and push the boundaries of contemporary popular music. Composing and arranging for orchestras and big bands as well as smaller jazz and chamber groups informs the way I produce my own recorded musical projects.
Much of my musical career has been in live performance, mostly within or adjacent to the jazz idiom. I have also worked as a gospel musician in a church and backed up many indie, rock, and r&b artists. I perform professionally as a trumpet player, pianist, and violinist, and play enough guitar and bass to record my own music.
My broad musical background allows me to cater specifically to the tastes and interests of my students- whether they want to learn classical pieces, how to hang at a jazz jam session, or how to learn their favorite pop songs by ear. I also love guiding students’ songwriting and composition endeavors; I find that this is one of the most rewarding and engaging ways to learn music and allows me to really understand a student’s musical vision and help them get there. I encourage creativity and uniqueness, while emphasizing the importance of building strong musical foundations- I believe understanding harmony on a deep level, being able to read music, and developing good ears are crucial skills that allow students to explore all types of music and get the most out of it. As a teacher, my openness to and enthusiasm for all types of musical interests keep me going.
