Piano Lessons in Madison

I’m originally from Cincinnati, OH and I’ve been playing piano now for over 20 years.

I first gained my love for music around the age of 9, being in church and learning a few songs by ear and just at the piano throughout the week to see what I could figure out on my own. By age 10 I started taking formal beginner piano lessons, where I learned how to play and read sheet music. By age 14 I moved on to study jazz in the University of Cincinnati’s CCM program for highschool students. During this time I learned a number of Jazz standards, and well improvisation techniques and Aural skills development. I would then later go on to study Commercial Music Technology At Tennessee State University, and later receive my master’s degree in Commercial Music Media Composition.

I’ve had the experience of touring throughout the world playing music and sharing my gift with many people. Also, living in Nashville, TN over the past 10 years has been a great experience with many musical opportunities and great connections. Along with performing, I’ve also learned how to compose, score for film, and produce music as well.

My teaching style is tailored differently to every student I have. The first lesson is more of an interview with a skill set evaluation. This helps me to have a better understanding of the student, what their goals are and what approach to have in our lessons. Most of my experience in formal lessons have been beginner piano, paired with beginner music theory. I’ve also taught informal piano lessons centered around Jazz performance and improvisation, gospel music performance, and beginner bass lessons.
