Piano Lessons in Manhattan
Learn Piano with Derek Wieland
“I specialize in Classical And Rock Piano And Theory”
About Me
With over 25 years of experience as the Musical Director and keyboardist for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I offer elite piano instruction to students of all ages and skill levels in Manhattan. My pedagogical lineage is rooted in the highest level of classical tradition; as a graduate of The Juilliard School (BM, MM), I had the privilege of studying under György Sándor, the primary student of Béla Bartók.
My career spans the global stage, from performing as a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and Slovak Philharmonic to collaborating with legendary jazz guitarist Al Di Meola on his Across the Universe album and opening for him in Stuttgart. This diverse background—ranging from prize-winning performances in the International Hummel Competition to composing for Shakespeare in the Park and Netflix—allows me to bridge the gap between historic technical mastery and the demands of a high-level professional career.
My curriculum is exceptionally versatile, covering everything from the structural complexities of Bach and Beethoven to pop styles, jazz, and comprehensive music theory. Whether you are a beginner picking up the instrument for the first time or an advanced player refining your artistry, I focus on developing a well-rounded musicality tailored to your specific goals.
