Learn Piano with Matthieu Cognet
“I specialize in Classical Piano Performance”
About Me
I am a French concert pianist, faculty coach at the Curtis Institute of Music, and staff pianist at the Juilliard School, with an active performing career across Europe, Asia, and the United States. I regularly collaborate with singers and instrumentalists at a high level, bringing both concert experience and professional insight into my teaching.
My teaching combines high musical standards and motivation with a warm, encouraging atmosphere (and a healthy sense of humor!). I believe students learn best when they feel supported, challenged, and genuinely enjoy the process. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and level, whether building strong fundamentals, preparing auditions, refining artistry, or simply reconnecting with music. I strongly believe in awareness and understanding how to build adequate practice strategies.
I focus on technique, musical expression, confidence-building, and effective practice habits, while helping students develop their artistic and intellectual curiosity, independence, and a lasting love of music. Whether working with beginners, advanced students, or returning adults, my goal is to help each student grow into a confident, expressive, and thoughtful musician.
