Learn Piano with Gillian Omotoso
“I specialize in Rock Pop And Jazz Comping, Sight Reading And Music Theory, and Songwriting And Analysis”
About Me
Hello! My name is Gillian Omotoso.
As a music educator, make no mistake that I am truly a music scholar, as well as a composer and
classically trained vocalist (mezzo-soprano / dramatic soprano), alongside being a jazz-trained
pianist, and occasional guitarist. My musical knowledge spans multiple genres, styles, and forms,
because first and foremost is built around acoustics: the study of sound and its sonic effect. I
have studied and partaken in classical forms, jazz forms, pop forms, rock forms, r&b, EDM,
industrial… but also I have studied otonality and utonality, Riemannian harmony, Schenkerian
analysis, and also intermixing that with knowing very well how numbers and shapes come to pass
in relation to each other. Now music ought to be cathartic and fun, this might all sound stuffy…
but for me, it’s not. It guides me to hearing and even seeing music in [literally] pitch-perfect and
beat-perfect clarity. I have worked as a music teacher since July of 2023 and as a voice therapist
and specialist I have worked in various capacities since late 2022. I am very privy to the art of
shaping sound, as has it been a profound journey for myself for many years, especially as a
composer, singer-songwriter, and public speaker (which I too have partaken in occasionally). My
life revolves around sound and I am blessed to be able to share that wisdom and wonder.
As far as voice, I have studied everything from bel canto to speech-level singing to CVT, as well as the art
of voice feminization, which I was certified for at the start of 2023, by Canadian vocologist Renée
Yoxon. I also studied voice, piano, and guitar at Monmouth University, where I matriculated as a Bachelor of Arts, voice under the tutelage of
mezzo-soprano Eunjoo Lee-Huls. I received my Associate of Arts from Brookdale Community College
in June of 2024 and studied at The College of New Jersey, where I played piano for their jazz ensemble,
from 2015 to 2017.
I also am well-versed in several languages, most notably French, which I would be able to conduct lessons in fairly
easily. I can also speak Spanish and Italian, and I am also fairly astute at this point in German.
In short, I would love for you to have me on your team. 🎶
