“I specialize in Classical Piano”
About Me
Hello! My name is Tamia, and I have been teaching music since 2017. I hold a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University and have experience teaching students of all ages and ability levels in both classroom and private lesson settings.
Throughout my career, I have taught general music, orchestra, choir, guitar, and private lessons in a variety of environments, including schools, churches, community programs, and online platforms. I currently teach piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, classical guitar, recorder, music theory, and music history.
My teaching style is student-centered and individualized. Every student learns differently, so I strive to adapt lessons to their unique goals, interests, strengths, and learning needs. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent learners (being one myself!), including students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, and I believe that music education should be accessible, encouraging, and enjoyable for everyone.
Whether a student is preparing for auditions, developing foundational skills, exploring music as a hobby, or pursuing advanced musical study, I focus on building confidence, creativity, musicianship, and a lifelong love of learning. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel challenged, successful, and excited to grow as musicians.
Music is a natural part of humanity. Long before we learn to read notes on a page, we are surrounded by rhythm, pitch, expression, and sound in our everyday lives. We hear it in speech, nature, movement, storytelling, and the communities around us. One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping students recognize the musical concepts they already know and experience every day, then building upon that foundation to develop deeper understanding and skill.
I believe music education should be meaningful, practical, and connected to real life. Whether a student hopes to perform professionally, participate in school ensembles, lead worship, compose, or simply enjoy music as a lifelong hobby, I strive to help them develop both the technical skills and personal confidence needed to make music a lasting part of their lives.
