Piano Lessons in Stillwater

Hello! My name is Julie. Since I’m kind of old, I have taught music and acting (often at once) for about 45 years, and I still love every minute of it! I sing, play piano and perform as an actor professionally. On the weekends, I am a church musician.

I have spent years teaching classroom music, on all levels, and worked with University students who were learning how to teach music. I also like to help kids and adults prepare for auditions.

I like for us to begin lessons by listening to you, and to what was easy or challenging for you as you practiced during the previous week.

I will watch and listen as you play! I’ll offer suggestions. We’ll work on note-reading and learn a bit about the composers who wrote your music. I love to teach and learn by playing music games. With permission from your families, we can work with computers to connect our learning with things you can do virtually to learn and have more fun with your music.

At your first few lessons,

I will ask you what kinds of music you like, and I’ll ask you to stay curious and open to new and different kinds of music! In our early lessons, I’ll also pay attention to your learning styles, (to how you learn best). What else will I ask from you as my students? I will ask you to pay attention to what music makes you happy, to what parts of growing as a musician feels satisfying, even if it’s not always fun or easy at first.

Also, I want you to know that either of your parents (or both) are always welcome at your lessons!

Now, what about you? What do you hope to become on your musical journey? Do you want to learn to love music? That’s what I want for you! Maybe you would like to learn to read music so that you can be in a band, choir, or maybe do musical theater!

Music is a great way to get involved and hang out with nice people. Do you want to learn music for fun? To serve others, to perform? Music is meant to be shared… And it is meant to bring you joy. And once you’re a musician, you will never stop learning.
