Piano Lessons in Cully

Music and teaching are my great passions in life. Growing up, my mother taught piano lessons in our living room and insisted that I and my three siblings all learn various instruments and sing in the church choir. I am trained in piano, cello, and percussion. I believe that music is magic.

I’ve been an instructor in many different environments including group classes for piano, guitar, and music production at Montavilla Community Center, as an independent instructor in my home studio, as an assistant in after-school programs, and as an instructor at Don’t Stop Rockin’ - an independent music school in Austin, TX. This last role was an especially wonderful and rewarding experience. Four days a week, after clocking out at my day job I would ride my bike along grasslands and strip malls deep into South Austin and teach anywhere from 35 to 40 students each week in one-on-one lessons. Most of them were beginners between the ages of 6 and 11. In just a year's time many had moved up to playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (1st, and in one case 3rd movement!), Clair De Lune, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Maple Leaf Rag, Bach, pop songs, originals, classics, and it all culminated in a beautiful showcase.

My instruction emphasizes deliberate practice techniques and goal-oriented learning as well as creativity and play. I've continued in my personal studies of music for 32 years - on piano, guitar, violin, cello, percussion, production, and voice - and my repertoire spans classical, contemporary, and everything in between. I’m currently writing my first album while also playing in a cover band.
