Piano Lessons in Manhattan

Hello, my name is Erika Kanai, and I am a professional piano instructor based in New York. I have over 13 years of piano experience and have taught students of various ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced players preparing for performances and competitions.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals while also nurturing musical expression. I believe that learning piano is not only about technique, but also about understanding music deeply and enjoying the process. Each lesson is carefully tailored to the student’s level, goals, and personality.

For younger students, I emphasize consistency, reading skills, and developing a genuine love for music in a structured and supportive environment. For adult learners, I offer flexible, goal-oriented lessons, whether you are starting from scratch or returning to piano after many years.

My students have consistently performed at Carnegie Hall each year, and many have received awards through competitions and festivals. I also serve as a competition judge, which allows me to guide students with a clear understanding of performance standards and expectations.

Many of my students have improved their skills, gained confidence, and performed in recitals.

Lessons take place in a comfortable home studio with a grand piano.
