Piano Lessons in Southside

Hello! I've been teaching music for 15 years and have been teaching piano for 11 years. I hold a BA in music from Sul Ross State University and a master's in music education from Eastern Washington University. My youngest student was 4 and the oldest in their 60's which obviously calls for different approaches. My biggest emphasis while teaching is focusing on rhythm and a healthy mixture of basics (such as some theory, scales, etc.) along with music the student is interested in. I feel that not enough teachers focus on rhythm, so I use a metronome consistently. Without good solid rhythm everything falls apart. I find that almost every student has a song or some genre of music they're interested in even if their brand new to the instrument. For instance, a theme from one of their favorite movies. When working with me I like to set goals, sometimes within a certain timeframe that the student can strive for in the future. Also, I'm very creative with the lessons so that we're not constantly working on the same old boring strategy. I'll use apps or will accompany the student to make them feel included and to improve their rhythm and timing.
