About Me
n my teaching, I also place a strong emphasis on helping students understand how music works beyond simply playing the notes on the page. When students begin to recognize patterns, chords, and musical structures, learning new pieces becomes much easier and more meaningful. Developing this understanding allows students to become more independent musicians and gives them tools they can apply to any music they choose to learn in the future.
I also encourage students to listen carefully to the music they play. Listening is a very important part of musical development, and it helps students improve their sense of timing, tone, and expression. By paying attention to how music sounds and feels, students learn how to bring more life and emotion into their playing rather than simply focusing on accuracy.
Another important part of my teaching approach is building confidence. Many students, especially beginners, can feel uncertain when learning a new instrument. I work to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, trying new things, and learning through mistakes. Progress in music happens step by step, and I believe it is important for students to recognize and feel proud of the improvements they make along the way.
For younger students, I focus on making lessons engaging and interactive while still maintaining a strong emphasis on musical fundamentals. Keeping lessons enjoyable helps younger learners stay interested and motivated as they build new skills. By breaking down concepts into manageable steps, students are able to clearly see their progress and gain confidence as they continue learning.
For older students and adults, lessons are often shaped around personal interests and goals. Some students want to learn specific songs they enjoy, while others are interested in developing technical skills or revisiting music they studied earlier in life. I enjoy helping students pursue the type of music that excites them while still building the skills that allow them to grow as musicians.
I also believe that developing good practice habits is essential for steady progress. During lessons, I help students understand how to practice effectively so they can continue improving between lessons. Even short, focused practice sessions can make a significant difference over time, and learning how to approach practice thoughtfully helps students stay motivated and productive.
Ultimately, my goal as a teacher is to help students develop skills that last far beyond individual lessons. Piano can become a lifelong source of enjoyment, creativity, and personal expression. Whether a student is learning for fun, personal growth, or long term musical development, I aim to make the learning process both rewarding and inspiring so they continue to enjoy music for years to come.
