Piano Lessons in Winnetka

My name is Matt Gordy. I have over 20 years of teaching experience for all levels.

I teach piano, classical, pop, and jazz. I also teach drums and percussion. All styles. All levels.

I believe every student is an individual and everyone learns at their own pace and understanding.

For piano for beginners I use different books depending on what the student prefers to learn. For more advanced students I would cover the blues (two-handed and also bebop type blues). Learning all 13 chord types (major seventh, minor seventh, dominant seventh, etc.)with an improvised line. 47 documented pentatonic scales. Approaches to vertical tunes (Giant Steps, Countdown, etc.) approaches to Rhythm Changes. Also two-handed voicings and left hand voicings.

For drums and or percussion I use a combination of rudiments, reading, coordination exercises and basic grooves (swing, rock, pop, shuffle, 6/8 and 12/8, bossa nova, samba and gaita (Venezuela).
