Learn Piano with Scott Massey
“I specialize in Classical Piano, Improvisation, and Music Theory”
About Me
Hey!
I'm Scott and I think beginning to intermediate-level keyboardists deserve an experienced music teacher who is knowledgeable of and skilled in music theory, instructional design, differentiated instruction, music technology/games, AND musical performance. You could hire someone like me who inspires learners to become musically competent, creative, and collaborative while having fun at the same time!
My Musical Training:
San Jacinto Community College, Pasadena, TX- Private Piano studied with Shelton Berg and Mrs. Ghormley. Shelton became Music Dean at the University of Miami.
Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL- Introduction to Music (equivalent to Music Theory 1)
Paul Renard's Music Dynamics, Chicago, IL- Sight reading training
Florida Conservatory of Music, Orange Park, FL- Private piano lessons from Lindita Godo
Berklee College of Music, Online Extension- Awarded Specialist Certificate in Music Theory and Counterpoint (for completing Music Theory 2, Music Theory 3, and Counterpoint)
I can teach all styles of keyboard music. Learners are trained to read and write standard musical notation, play at sight, play by ear, improvise, sing if they wish, create music, record music, learn from and play along with midi tracks, and perform in ensembles. I teach in my private studio in Jacksonville FL, online via Zoom, or in your home if you are within 10 miles of my location.
Online lessons are designed for learners at least 10 years of age. Younger ones usually require face to face instruction. 30-minute lessons are fine for most 5-7 year-olds. For others, I suggest 45-minute or hourly lessons. In Home lessons are only by the hour. Lessons are scheduled upon monthly payment in advance. Lessons are usually scheduled for slots between Monday-Friday, 3pm to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm. A scheduled but missed lesson can be made up at a later date within 30 days. There are no refunds for missed lessons, ever. There is no long term contract. A/B honor roll students and senior citizens receive a 10% discount on lessons; school report card proof is required each semester to maintain the discounted rate. If applicable, ask about multiple student discount!
I have 11 years experience teaching keyboard instruments. I look forward to meeting you and learning what your musical goals include. From there, a systematic and individualized plan to assist you in reaching those goals will be structured and implemented.
