Piano Lessons in Manhattan
Learn Piano with William Evans
“I specialize in Jazz Piano Performance, Music Theory, and Composition”
About Me
Hi, I’m Will! I’m a jazz pianist and teacher with over ten years of experience helping students grow as confident, creative musicians. I hold a master’s degree in jazz piano from the Manhattan School of Music, where I currently am a member of the precollege faculty. I’ve performed and taught jazz, classical in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx since 2021, and would be eager to learn about your piano journey.
My teaching style is flexible, supportive, and engaging. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced player, I tailor lessons to your goals and learning style using creative exercises.
I work with students on piano, improvisation, composition, and music theory, helping them not only learn pieces but also understand how music works. My goal is for every student to leave lessons feeling inspired, capable, and excited to keep exploring music.
I’d be eager to discuss how my teaching might benefit you!
Feedback from former and current students:
“[Student] has had two teachers so far, one in Athens and one in Geneva, both from the countries national conservatoires, and today he told me, quite simply, “Mr. Will is my best teacher.”
Listening from upstairs during today’s lesson, I felt compelled to share how impressed I am. Teaching is not easy, and it’s clear that you are both highly skilled and genuinely passionate about what you do. That combination is a real gift and it shows.
Thank you so much.”
“Great instructor! Has a really good way of teaching the music. Is prompt, responsible, and professional. As an older adult learning piano for the first time, I was hesitant about taking lessons online. Will is patient, he makes sure you understand what he is talking about before moving on. Gives great feedback for everything you are working on. Makes learning piano fun. Not only teaches how to play the piano, but also understanding the notes and music. I look forward to my weekly piano lessons with Will. If there were more stars he would get them.”
“Will is an excellent communicator, encouraging, enthusiastic and very knowledeagble. Resuming piano lessons after many years, he has tailored instruction to my skill level making it fun and challenging. I've learned a great deal about jazz piano and progressed beyond my expectations. Highly recommended.”
“I worked with Will for a 6 month period, over which my understanding of piano technique, jazz theory, and musicianship all developed greatly. Will is an incredibly humble and supportive teacher, while sporting all of the wealth of knowledge to provide inspiration every lesson and help explore whatever questions came up over the course of our study. He was particularly good at managing the balance between self-directed study to pursue personal interests while also providing the necessary pre-requisites and surrounding knowledge to facilitate effect development.”
