About Me

My musical background is rooted in both formal training and several years of hands-on teaching experience. I studied piano performance at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, where I trained under Dr. Kim. During my time there, I developed a strong foundation in classical repertoire, technique, and musical interpretation, along with a disciplined and thoughtful approach to practicing and performing.

Since then, I have spent several years teaching piano to students of varying ages and skill levels. I currently teach in the Los Angeles area, working with both young beginners and more advanced students. This range of experience has shaped my teaching style into one that is adaptable, structured, and focused on long-term growth.

My teaching emphasizes building a strong technical foundation from the beginning. I focus on helping students develop proper hand position, coordination, and a sense of ease at the piano. Many students come in with unnecessary tension or inefficient habits, and I work to guide them toward a more natural and comfortable way of playing. This not only improves their sound, but also allows them to progress more confidently.

At the same time, I place a strong emphasis on musicality and listening. I encourage students to go beyond simply playing the correct notes and to think about phrasing, tone, and expression. Even at an early level, students can begin to develop a sense of musical awareness, and I aim to support that from the start.

I also prioritize helping students learn how to practice effectively. I guide them in breaking down music, identifying challenges, and approaching their practice with focus and consistency. Over time, this helps students become more independent and confident in their progress.

For younger students, I create lessons that are engaging and positive while still maintaining structure and clear expectations. With more advanced students, I focus on refining technique, control, and overall musical understanding, helping them reach a more polished level of playing.

Ultimately, my goal is to help students build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and form a lasting connection with music. Whether they are learning for enjoyment or pursuing piano more seriously, I aim to give them the tools and support they need to grow.
