Learn Piano with Kyle Scriven
“I specialize in Jazz Improvisation, Score Reading, and Music Theory”
About Me
I am a classically trained pianist and dedicated music educator with a strong background in classical repertoire, jazz, and music theory. My approach to teaching centers on curiosity, creativity, and deep musical understanding. I aim beyond simply learning notes, focusing instead on teaching music as a language — one that can be expressed through each student’s unique voice.
I believe students thrive when they feel both challenged and supported, so I tailor lessons to each individual’s goals, learning style, and interests. Whether a student is preparing for performances, exploring improvisation, studying theory in greater depth, or just beginning their musical journey and wanting to learn a song they love, I strive to build strong technical foundations alongside expressive confidence. My goal is not only to help students play well, but to understand what they are playing and why it works.
With training in classical technique, jazz harmony, ear training, and improvisation, I emphasize well-rounded musicianship. Lessons may include theory integration, sight-reading, creative exploration, and ear development, all designed to cultivate independence and long-term growth at the instrument. I want students to feel empowered — capable of reading music, playing by ear, thinking critically about sound, and expressing themselves authentically.
Above all, I want my students to experience the joy and depth that music can offer. Piano study is not only about performance; it develops discipline, patience, focus, emotional awareness, and creativity. My hope is that each student leaves lessons not only with stronger skills, but with a lasting appreciation for music and confidence in their own musical voice.
