Hi, I’m Ava Bigalke, a versatile multi-instrumentalist, performer, and educator based in the Winston-Salem area. I hold a Master of Music degree from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas. My background blends rigorous conservatory training with diverse, real-world performance experience, allowing me to bring an engaging and practical perspective to my teaching.

As a woodwind specialist and pianist, I have performed in pit orchestras, solo and chamber settings, and collaborative ensembles across a variety of styles, including classical and musical theatre. Performing in these settings has strengthened my adaptability, musical awareness, and ability to communicate through music—skills I actively pass on to my students. I believe that music is not just about playing the right notes, but about expression, storytelling, and building confidence.

I have extensive experience as a private instructor and teaching assistant, working with students of all ages and skill levels. My teaching approach focuses on building strong technical foundations while fostering creativity, independence, and a genuine enjoyment of music. I tailor each lesson to the individual student, incorporating repertoire they enjoy alongside essential skills to keep lessons both effective and engaging.

In my studio, I place a strong emphasis on creating a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel comfortable growing at their own pace. I break down complex concepts into approachable steps, helping students build confidence through consistent progress and clear goals. I also prioritize developing healthy practice habits, problem-solving skills, and musical independence so students can continue learning effectively outside of lessons. Open communication with both students and families is important to me, ensuring that goals are clear and progress is both visible and rewarding.

In addition to technique and repertoire, I incorporate music theory, ear training, and practical musicianship to help students become well-rounded, confident musicians. Whether a student is just beginning or preparing for auditions and performances, my goal is to create a motivating and engaging environment that encourages curiosity, discipline, and a lifelong passion for music.
