Piano Lessons in Winston Salem

I’m Melchi Kpade, a jazz pianist, performer, and educator based in North Carolina. I’ve been teaching piano for several years, working with students of all levels—from beginners to more experienced players looking to refine their sound and musical voice. My background as a performing musician allows me to bring a practical, real-world approach to each lesson.

My teaching style focuses on developing well-rounded musicianship. In addition to building strong fundamentals like technique and coordination, I emphasize ear training, rhythm, and musical understanding. I encourage students to go beyond simply reading notes and develop the ability to listen, interpret, and express themselves at the piano. I also incorporate elements of improvisation and jazz for students interested in a more creative approach.

Each lesson is tailored to the individual, whether the goal is learning favorite songs, building confidence, or exploring new styles. My goal is to create an engaging, supportive environment where students can grow musically and enjoy the process of learning.

I also place a strong emphasis on consistency and building good practice habits outside of lessons, helping students make steady progress week to week. Over time, students develop not only technical ability, but also a deeper sense of time, phrasing, and musical awareness. Whether lessons are taken casually or with specific goals in mind, I aim to make each session both productive and inspiring, equipping students with skills they can carry into any musical setting.
