Piano Lessons in Yarmouth

Hi I'm Carolyn Nelson. I offer private piano lessons for all ages and skill levels—both online and in person. With a mix of guidance, encouragement, and creativity, I help each student grow at their own pace in a fun, supportive space. I teach piano in a way that feels fresh, fun, and inspiring. I blend classical training with modern tools—like up-to-date method books, iPad and phone apps—to help students learn faster and stay engaged. Alongside solid technique, I encourage creativity, using playful prompts and guidance to help students explore, express, and even compose their own music.

I’ve been playing piano since I was five, and for over 30 years, music has been at the heart of everything I do—as a performer, accompanist, choir director, worship leader, and teacher. In addition to running Acorn Music Studios, I love working with local high school and college choirs and drama departments, helping them prep for concerts and competitions. I also enjoy coaching musicians and singers for auditions, offering support from rehearsal to performance.

I’m especially known for my sight-reading skills and my ability to bring a piece to life—whether I’m accompanying someone on the fly or composing on the spot. I take pride in being able to jump in with any performer, at any level, and make the music feel alive, not just accurate.

As a teacher, I aim to create a space where students feel confident, encouraged, and excited to learn. I believe that anyone with the desire to play can find joy and fulfillment in music. You don’t have to be a prodigy—just open to the journey. My greatest passion is making music accessible to everyone and inspiring my students to share that joy with others, even if just for a moment.
