Learn Piano with Marc Eaton
“I specialize in Beginner To Intermediate Piano, Improvisation, and Music Theory”
About Me
My name is Marc Eaton, I've been teaching Piano, Guitar, and Music Theory for over a decade as well as performing on Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Mandolin in ensembles and as a solo artist. My degrees are in Music Composition, Music Business, and Performance. I currently reside in rural Colorado where Ive acted as Adjunct Professor of Guitar at the local Liberal Arts College and had a studio of anywhere from 3 to 15 students across instruments. While my degrees were earned playing and studying Classical Music as a solo performer, I have a passion for popular music ranging from Blues to Jazz, Rock, Funk, Folk, Americana, and Country. I excel at memorization, improvisation, music theory, and musical analysis. Post-academia I have studied with Dani Rabin of Marbin where our focus was music theory and harmony as well as various PhD's on percussion and voice (to improve my own performances and rehearsal communication). I have found the vast majority of students learn to play and understand music in a narrow way which inhibits their ability to continue growth beyond the early intermediate stages on their instrument. I do not accept this as good for the students and as a result do not take shortcuts. One of my best teachers said something that has stuck with me throughout my teaching experience. He said, "My job is to make it so you don't need me anymore, not to ensure you keep taking lessons." I find most students these days are trying to learn off Youtube videos or something similar and believe those sources of information are designed to keep students dependent and paying for services. This is anathema to my teaching ethos. Studying with me will mean learning to play and understand music in a very comprehensive way while still focusing on your specific goals. As a result, students in it for a bit of fun find my lesson to be difficult and require too much engagement. If you're ready to take Piano (or guitar) seriously, I'll be a good fit to help on your journey!
