Piano Lessons in Northeast Side

My name is Joseph Batchelor. I have been teaching piano and choir for over 30 years. I bring a unique professional and engaging presence to piano instruction. I seek to determine student goals and proceed with challenging yet accessible instruction. I believe students need a lot of encouragement and challenges to reach objectives through music instruction. My lessons usually include technique pieces and/or scales as these are needed to build facility and muscle memory. This is followed by review of pieces practiced in the week to hear student progress. Then I introduce new pieces that the student should work on next. We usually sight read and I demonstrate as needed, making sure the student can work independently or with parent help in the practice week. I also teach students how to practice, making sure they know what to listen for, instilling counting and theory so they are not wasting time. If we have an upcoming performance class or recital opportunity, we prepare a memorized piece (preferably) do that the student is fully prepared. I also teach students recital expectations and etiquette. The goal is to instill all facets of musicianship, including rhythm, pitch, dexterity, expression, musicality, confidence, and stage presence so that no matter how long the student takes lessons, they can enjoy the immense enrichment music brings to themselves and their families.
