Learn Piano with Sonia Chan
“I specialize in Piano Performance In Classical Jazz And Pop, Piano Improvisation, and Music Theory And Foundation”
About Me
With a strong background in piano performance and K–12 Music Education, and over 7 years of teaching experience, I specialize in early childhood music education, beginner piano development, and training intermediate students of all ages. My training in both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) system and the Berklee College of Music approach allows me to combine strong classical foundations with creativity, flexibility, and modern musicianship.
I believe there is no such thing as being “too young to start” learning music—it is simply a matter of understanding each student’s learning style and using the right teaching method and approach. Every student has their own unique musical journey, which is why I strongly value customized teaching that meets individual needs with both high standards and encouragement.
My teaching style is both fun and serious: innovative, engaging, and structured. I focus on giving clear explanations, practical examples, and supportive guidance so students can truly understand and grow with confidence. For me, music education is never only about becoming the best musician, but about building a lifelong relationship with music and the instrument we choose to play.
Above all, I emphasize developing a healthy long-term mindset in learning. Music teaches far more than performance skills—it builds discipline, patience, confidence, emotional awareness, and self-expression. Through learning music, I hope every student can not only enjoy the process, but also become a better version of themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the tuition the same for studio, online and in-home lessons?
No. All in-home lessons will have a transportation fee that covers the round way transit time on top of the regular lesson price. The regular price is for studio and online lessons only.
How do I know what lesson length to take?
Typically, - 30 minute lessons are for young children who have shorter attention spans. - 45 minute lessons are for any student who want will to get a basic piano learning experience that is not too much yet solid learning. - 60 minute lessons are recommended for any student who is serious about their studies, and would like to have more time to work on crafts and pieces. (60 minute lessons are the basic length for any musician wannabe, both 30 & 45 min lessons are for exploring stages)
How do often I pay my tuition?
The first lesson is the only lesson that may be a one-time payment. Any lessons after that must be paid monthly, at the first lesson of the month. That way is the earliest for both the teacher and the student to make monthly schedule changes in advance.
What is your refund policy?
Refund is unavailable, student may reschedule lessons with the teacher at any available spot. Any cancellation will be seen as forfeiting the lesson experience, and there will not be any refund because the spot is originally reserved on a regular basis for you. If you already know you wouldn’t be taking lessons on certain dates, it is recommended that you communicate with the teacher a month in advance and pay your tuition based on the amount of lessons you will be taking of that month.
What if the teacher canceled the lesson?
A makeup lesson will be provided if the teacher cancelled the lesson. When there is no available lesson slot left, the teacher will apply that lesson credit onto the next month to replace the cost of one of the lessons. Which means, you will receive a “free” lesson in the next month, but it is technically not free because you’ve paid it “in advance”.
